my little art space

My little art desk where I fill my art orders and play with new drawings and paintings. I love the industrial stool my husband found for me at the Woolloongabba Antique Centre! It's handy as I don't spend a lot of time at this desk as it's for filling orders and for playing - it's easy to get in and out of.

I'm still fiddling with the arrangement and framing choice of this bunch but this is where I'm at. Art from left to right, top to bottom: Vintage Apple print from the Brooklyn Flea, white with three customisable 'Texture of Morocco' in 'silk green', white with three 'Botanical Fruit' in 'colour scheme 4', four hearts prints, one of my own, not for sale but thinking about it..., white with three 'Organic Spots', Hand-made gocco 'Bear' print by Beci Orpin, bottom left is a photo I took in Cartagena (see more photos here), and lastly the 'Love Something' two colour hand-pulled screenprint I did at a course last year... still thinking about whether to sell this one as I have an edition of ten lying around!

Just some botanicals I'm playing with. I want to add a bit more intensity to this watercolour.

My botanical drawing - not sure what to do with it yet... maybe watercolour or maybe just pen and ink!

My office isn't complete without a dachshund lounging around. This is my little Honey who likes plush surfaces for napping. This chair I actually bought as a pair for $130 and they are in great condition. My desk is around the corner to the left but I don't even have an office chair yet so will share that space at a later date! I love the old casement windows that let so much natural light in.

Oh Honey Bunny. We bought the springbox skin back from Africa a few years ago.

The photobooth pic is from our wedding day!

I do quite like the sweet little heart print - should I add it to my online store?

So I hope you like my space thus far - I still have to get an office chair for my other desk where the laptop magic happens, I've just carefully shot in a direction which cuts out the chaos that it currently is!

Will share more of my home soon

sneak peek

I've been so super busy with my fulltime job I've barely had a chance to share our new home photos. Here is a little sneak peek of my office - complete with dachshund on plush chair of course (this is my little Honey).

Will share more photos soon :)

designed by love

I was recently approached by 'Ruffles and Cake' - a new local wedding magazine in my hometown of Townsville - to do a little story on me, my business and of course my beautiful husband and our wedding!

They asked me to collect special momentos from around my home which sent me digging through shoeboxes of maps, postcards and souvenirs from our South American adventure last year and our more recent trip to New York in February. Also featured are a couple of my White with Three art prints, a newspaper I grabbed in Dubai, paints and paintbrushes (and a watercolour pineapple I did a few weeks ago), my lovely leather shoes and polka jumper, a menu from my favourite restaurant in Melbourne Chin Chin, a yellow beaded necklace I got in Colombia and a gorgeous art work from my favourite artist Beci Orpin (see the bear print on the brown paper!)

Make sure you pop over and read the full story over on the Ruffles and Cake Magazine! Thank you Savannh and Skye for featuring such a sweet story! (flick to page 37 for my interview and page 95 to see my wedding photos)

lovely long weekend

How did you spend your long weekend?

Besides the sleeping in, chocolate for breakfast and long lunches my husband and I managed to find time to pot some baby herbs! These little fellas have been waiting to move into their new home for a couple of weeks now so I'm glad we finally got around to repotting them. Our two mini dachshunds Honey and Rio also provided their assistance throughout the process. Nick is better with plants than I am so hopefully under his care they'll live a long life and provide our meals with lots of herby-flavour-goodness. We chose basil, mint and coriander though it turns out the coriander is actually parsley! Haha if it weren't for the big 'parsley' label on the front it could have been anyone's mistake :P  We also potted a pretty indoor plant which I'll move into my office when she settles in to her new pot.

Since moving into our new home in Brisbane it's been quite a chaotic year with our impromptu overseas trip to Frankfurt and New York, and then landing a full time job as a senior creative at a great studio! So this means I'm filling artwork orders for my etsy store at night and on weekends but I promise to make time for more regular blog posts. If you hadn't seen my 'blank canvas' post click here to see how our home looked when we moved in... I'll get busy snapping at our progress to share with you.

Hope you all had a lovely long weekend! Enjoy the following photos, I think this turned into puppy photo shoot more than anything!!

I love it when Honey's ears flop down like this... it's why we call her 'Bunny' most of the time!

Rio trying out some creative angles for his portrait

The coriander which turned out to be parsley!
You can't tell me that Rio doesn't love the camera!
Rio making his getaway with an empty pot...

Oh gosh I just love him!

Nick and Bunny scouting a position for the pots
And here they are, I'll move my indoor plant inside once she settles into her pot!

Oh Bunny...

I'm loving this space under the frangipani tree... We have an outdoor table we'll have to move so we can enjoy breakfast out here!

manhattan was snowing on me

Loved seeing the snow sitting on top of the branches!

OH MANHATTAN! I've finally finished off the second installment of my New York photos. I still can't believe I was there just over a month ago! Seeing New York in all it's snowy-wintery-goodness was magical. And having seen New York in the height of summer only six months prior it was amazing to see the transformation. To me... it's the most amazing place on earth. There is an undeniable buzz - an energy that gets stuck in your veins.

On the day I took these photos it was my last day in New York. We woke to see it was quite hazy and snowy and I actually was worried thinking it wasn't good 'photography' conditions but how I was wrong - I love the naked trees with buildings fading off into the distance. So magical.

If you didn't see the first installment of my photos, check out the Brooklyn edition here.

The Flat Iron building is a must-see!
I popped into the Marimekko New York store which was like a warm and bright-coloured haven from the cold outside! How I miss my Marimekko Melbourne girls. The boss here in New York said I had a job if I wanted one...
Marimekko, New York.

Madewell - one of my fav clothing shops
Shop window at Madewell
My favourite building in Manhattan has to be the Chrysler building. It is an amazing testament to Art Deco - here is the lobby. Stunning. (It's almost impossible to photograph the building itself as all the building around it are so tall!)
Inside the Chrysler building - the lobby ceiling.
Grand Central Station. Another must-see in New York.

The ceiling of the station is a massive painting of the constellations.
Taking pictures of the snow falling. I was in love.

The New York Public Library - another must-see.
Part of the New York Public Library ceiling.
The Reading Room was spectacular... Ghost Busters anyone?

I then headed to Central Park which was just so beautiful covered in snow. I didn't stay long because my nose and fingers were starting to freeze!!

I think one of my favourite things about Central Park is being able to view the city from afar - the buildings towering over are so beautiful.
I finished the day with a trip to Lombardi's pizza in Soho. Basically the best pizza EVER!!! I ordered the margarita and finished all but one slice... I think I did pretty well!
After the pizza I stopped off at The Little Cupcake Bakeshop for the most delicious cupcakes I've ever tasted. I visited this place THREE TIMES last time I was in New York! Do yourself a favour and order the 'Dreaming Princess'. It's as fluffy and sweet as it sounds.
Not the best photo but just had to include it - this was my last glimse of Manhattan before disappearing underground to the subway. My favourite the beautiful Chrysler building was just popping out to say goodbye.
Thank you again little Jessie for taking care of us. How lucky are you... you LIVE here!!
